Debbie Hickerson

Sandestin Harbor, FL

Debbie Hickerson, Ed.S.

I am a native of Rutherford County and a proud Tennessean.  My husband, Kevin, and I have our boat docked at Center Hill Marina and enjoy many sunny days on the lake as well as traveling to new places.  We are season ticket holders to MTSU Blue Raider football games and supporters of the Blue Raider Athletic Association.  We are regular attendees of Friday Night Music on the Square and
the Saturday Morning Market.

Kevin and I are also on the Board of Directors for The Last Minute Toy Store, a non-profit organization that provides Christmas for indigent families in Middle Tennessee.

Our four-year-old, Savannah Grace, keeps us very busy with soccer, gymnastics, swimming, and bike riding.  We enjoy cooking, baking, gardening, strolling flea markets and antique stores.
My birthday is February 2.  Yes, I was born on Groundhog's Day!  My favorite colors are royal blue, periwinkle, and aqua.  My favorite children's book series is
Skippyjon Jones.

My favorite bible verse is Jeremiah 29:11
"For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

My educational background:
High School - Smyrna High Class of 82
Undergraduate degree - MTSU - Early Childhood Education with Elementary Education Endorsement 1994
Master's degree - MTSU - Reading Specialist 1997
Educational Specialist degree - MTSU - Administration/Supervision 2014

I am a National Geographic Certified Educator and
a Digital Citizenship Certified Educator.  I have been a Tennessee State Teacher Fellow for the past two years and now serve in the role as a Coach for the State Teacher Fellowship.

I welcome parents and grandparents to volunteer in the classroom and attend any of our school functions.  I will send all newsletters to parents through Class Dojo and post many of them on this webpage.

Current research supports the importance of reading aloud with your child for at least 20 minutes a day.  I encourage you to make this
a daily routine.
